High School Approved for The Sycamore School 2018
11 October 2018
The Sycamore School opened in 2017, and currently provides primary school education (Prep to Year 6) for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The school recently received approval from the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board to expand into High School education from next year. In 2019, Sycamore will provide educational pathways for students with autism in Years 7 to 8. The year 2020 will see Year 9 introduced, followed by Year 10 in 2021.
Based on the TAFE campus at Alexandra Hills, The Sycamore school delivers educational opportunities for students on the autism spectrum through a full-time autism-friendly program aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Founder and CEO, Cindy Corrie says, “the high school will provide an opportunity for students to engage with a program that supports academic development and addresses the lifelong hurdles that people with autism face. We are excited to provide a pathway that will support our students and improve their opportunities later in life”.
Principal, Ronwyn Collier says, “This is wonderful news for many of our parents and young people in our community. This process has taken many months of hard work by several of our staff and we are very thankful for this positive outcome. We are all looking forward to another new chapter in The Sycamore story!”
